Uber for Your Gift

Show a donor exactly where their dollars travel inside your organization — like watching a ride move across the map.

1 The Problem

Unrestricted gifts are the most valuable and the hardest to steward, because donors can't see them work — money vanishes into "operations." Without a visible journey, donors restrict their gifts or stop giving, starving the flexible funding orgs need most.

2 The Idea

An interactive "journey map" experience (web/tablet, usable in a gift-officer meeting or as a follow-up link). The donor watches a representative unrestricted dollar travel and "stop" at vivid, true-to-life outcomes — one dollar helps build a capital project that makes the school stand out; another funds a scholarship student who becomes valedictorian; another funds a professor whose research wins a Nobel Prize. Each stop is a short story card with a face and a number.

3 Why Now

Donors expect Uber/DoorDash-style live transparency everywhere else in life, and the data-viz tooling to build a branching "journey" cheaply now exists.

⚓ What it's built on / data-safe

Use representative or composite journeys, not any individual donor's actual transaction ledger — emotionally true without exposing internal financials. No LLM required; it's a designed experience.

4 Execution Plan

1
Pick your outcome stops

Choose 4–6 real outcomes across the org (capital, scholarship, research, program), each with a real story and number.

2
Storyboard the journey

Map how one representative unrestricted dollar travels through those stops, beginning to end.

3
Build the interactive map

Ship it as a simple scroll/animation, or a guided slide a gift officer walks through live.

4
Deploy it in conversations

Use it in unrestricted-gift asks and as a personalized thank-you follow-up link.

5
Measure the lift

Track unrestricted-gift conversion and average unrestricted gift size before and after.

Ship this first

List the single most surprising place an unrestricted dollar went last year. That's stop #1 of your map.
